“Jamie” (pseudonym) is a teacher in a government school. He is also a Christian and a supporter of the traditional definition of marriage.

That is why Jamie expressed this opinion on Facebook, sharing articles from various news outlets supporting same-sex marriage and offering his alternative view.

Following complaints to the school and media reports of a “homophobic teacher” Jamie was placed under investigation by the Department of Education for suspected breaches of discipline.

Lawyers affiliated with the Human Rights Law Alliance were able to represent Jamie in negotiations with the department which ultimately saw the investigation dropped without any adverse findings.
